MATERIALS
Nicole Kagan draws from a wide array of materials to create her jewellery, including fine silver (precious metal clay)*, unique semi-precious & precious stones, glass beads (recycled, Murano, Venetian etc..), fresh water pearls, sterling silver, gold, brass, wood & leather. NK uses recycled & up-cycled materials whenever possible as well as eco-friendly materials for packaging.

*Fine Silver (Precious Metal Clay)
This magical material is actually pure fine silver that is manufactured in the form of clay. It is comprised of microscopic particles of silver, only 20 microns in diameter. It also contains water and an organic binder. After sculpting, forming, layering & texturing the clay, it is then dried and fired in a kiln, usually at 1650°F for 2-3 hours. This completely removes all of the water and binder, and the piece shrinks by about 30%. What was once soft clay is now a solid piece of pure fine silver (.999). The finishing is then done using traditional metal fabrication techniques and the pieces are often ‘antiqued’ to bring out the intricate detail & variety of textures. The end result is a truly original, organically crafted, piece of wearable art.
