My paintings are landscapes of introspection: open spaces offer visual and mental respite, while areas of visual complexity reflect internal complexities. The layers in my paintings often contain details that are eventually covered up, details that enrich the beauty and history of the surfaces; it could be drawings and mark-making, or bits of writing, like a stream of consciousness, a song lyric from music listened to while working, or a favourite word or quote.
